About Marin German Language

German for the 21st Century

Hamburg, Germany is my hometown. I was born there in 1955...

... and raised with two languages: speaking Farsi at home with my parents, and German with my siblings, playmates and fellow students. With a Masters Degree in Political Science, I left Germany in 1983 and chose as my new hometown Corte Madera, in the San Francisco Bay Area's beautiful Marin County.

My very first job upon arriving in the New World was teaching German at a well-known international institution. From there I went on to spend the majority of my professional career in business, starting in the commodities world in 1986 and ending in 2003 with executive responsibility for development of research, vetting and sales procedures to sell enterprise software licenses.

Since then, I have gone back to my roots: teaching at Redwood High School as part of Tamalpais Adult Education, College of Marin and privately. I taught a credit class at UC Berkeley Extension. In 2007, I joined the American Translators Association. I have also served as a simultaneous interpreter for German at the Marin County Superior Court.

As my teaching load has grown -- as a tutor, instructor of small private classes, and teacher at local community colleges and everyone's favorite bookstore, 'Book Passage' -- I do less and less translation and other services so I can concentrate on my German students and meeting their individual needs.

I invite you to give me a call, and talk about your interests in German language and culture. It would be my privilege and pleasure to welcome you as a student!"
